I’ve been looking forward to trying the Impossible Whopper because I’ve tried the Impossible meat crumbles at Qdoba and it’s great. So, here’s what I have to report.
Does it taste the same as a regular Whopper? No, not really. It’s quite good , but when you try a bit of the patty by itself it definitely has the flavor of a veggie burger. The big thing is that the texture is the closest I’ve seen a veggie burger get to real meat burgers, and that makes it much better. The other big thing going for it is that it’s virtually the same price as a regular Whopper. I paid 20¢ more. Compare that to the Beyond Meat patty at Carl’s Jr., which is $2 more per burger.
Honestly, I could order the Impossible Whopper instead of the real one every time and never miss the real one. But Burger King isn’t my go-to burger; I don’t think it would work with Wendy’s which is probably my favorite fast-food burger.

welcome to the fold.... i married a vegetarian (well a pesce tarian as she’ll eat fish and i’m not gonna press that point coz i might talk her out of it...and i love fish)
anyhoo... im loving the fact that the veggi options are pretty tasty now

About a year ago, I had a Whopper for the first time in many, many years (it used to be my go-to FF burger). I thought it tasted like mayonnaise, ketchup and fake smoke. So, really, I would imagine the Impossible Whopper would taste pretty much the same as that.

Was thinking the same thing. Of all the fast food burgers I’m willing to eat, the whopper seems to be just drowned in condiments. You could replace the patty with anything bland and I wouldn’t notice.

Wow now I really want to try it

I tried one of those a few weeks ago and I thought it was quite remarkably good. I’d order it instead of the Whopper but like you, BK is not my go-to. I have a good friend that I go to lunchies with from time to time, and when it’s my turn to buy, I always suggest BK because it’s what he likes and he always gets the Hershey’s pie for deserts.

I am a huge proponent of burgers, meat in general, and fast food, but have never had a whopper (or a big mac for that matter). One of these days.

I heard they were good. But I also heard they are NOT health food even though they’re plant-based:
“ The original Whopper clocks in at 660 calories (more than half of them coming from fat), 40 grams of fat, and 28 grams of protein. The Impossible Whopper comes in at 630 calories (again, half from fat), 34 grams of fat, and 25 grams of protein.
The Impossible Whopper
does have significantly lower cholesterol — 10 milligrams compared to 90
milligrams — but has more sodium at 1,240 milligrams compared to 980
milligrams.”

Yeah the texture of both the Beyond and Impossible burger patties is quite close to the real thing. They just don't taste like beef which causes me numerous double takes as I'm eating them
![]() 08/08/2019 at 18:24 |

If you’ve had and enjoyed a lot of other burgers, the Whopper and Big Mac will only disappoint you.

mmm beefy

Being that it's burger kind i feel like the impossible burger is actually closer to beef than whatever the hell they claim their actual burgers are.

We have had those at a place called Gott’s here in SF/Marin and I personally love them. With the CA burger you a bunch of stuff on it and I don’t even notice it’s different. Of course I stopped eating beef a long time ago so the turkey option was my go to there, but I tried the impossible and I am impressed. They make them here in Oakland and they added an assembly line so hopefully they will get cheaper and more plentiful in Whole Foods etc..

Burger King has been selling veggie burgers for at least a decade now. What’s this new thing?
![]() 08/08/2019 at 18:35 |

You might like this better, then, because it didn't have the burny flavor nearly as much.

No, that's the regular Whopper

They are definitely getting better, for sure.

I like their regular veggie burger, but you definitely know that one’s not real meat.
I don't know the composition of the Impossible patty, but it's pretty good. The best thing about the Qdoba version is that it tastes like the shredded beef that they discontinued a while back.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 18:41 |

I tried mine with cheese, and I actually think I'd like it better without.

A) I agree that Wendy’s is the best fast food , but 5G is better if you don’t mind waiting slightly longer
2) If they think we aren’t supposed to ea t meat, w hy do vegetarians try so hard trying to make their fake meat as close as possible to the real thing ?
![]() 08/08/2019 at 19:13 |

So would I. I like good veggie patties but adding a little meat to them can make them really tasty.

I tried it just to see what it was like, personally I’m OK with not ordering it again. Didn’t care for the texture, and it was kind of on the b land side .
Honestly, I have had worse beef burgers, but many more that were much better.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 19:27 |

They're trying to convert people who love the taste of meat. This isn't marketed towards life-long vegetarians (although they'll enjoy taking that money too). This is for people who say "I could never give up meat, and veggie burgers taste like garbage."
![]() 08/08/2019 at 19:27 |
|
It's not the one pretending to be something it's not. The Whopper is upfront about being a mediocre slab of grease buried in wilted lettuce.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 19:39 |
|
I love Wendy’s, but Five Guys is pretty expensive here. A&W is my favourite at the moment.
As far as #2 goes, it’s probably an attempt to convert meat eaters rather than sustain vegetarians. It’s a shame because there are plenty of great veggie dishes you can get, especially in Asian cuisines, without having to rely on fake meat.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 19:56 |

definitely also prefer coconut oil to beef fat in my colon
![]() 08/08/2019 at 20:08 |

I don’t really like Five Guys. (The restaurant, obviously.) The burgers are ok but overpriced, and I’m not into the fries. I think Smash Burger is better than them.
I don’t know for sure if vegetarians really care all that much whether or not it looks like meat, TBH. I think it’s more of a way to try to get the general public to try vegetarian options.

Still, it pretends pretty well. I mean, you don’t get upset by actors portraying historical figures in movies, right?
![]() 08/08/2019 at 20:14 |

That’s how I felt about the Beyond Meat burger at Carl's Jr. The texture is not quite right. I think the Impossible one gets it way closer. My only complaint would be that it's a bit dry, but not enough to put me off.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I ate at a Burger King. Hell, I can’t recall the last time I even saw a Burger King. Don’t have any near my house or along my normal commute.
However, I have had an Impossible burger at a local bar/restaurant recently . It was totally fine. Tasted good, no off-putting texture or flavors (looking at you, Morningstar Farms). I wouldn’t mind eating them more often, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to order one. In the end, I’m glad that they’ re a thing that exists. I’m all in favor of more options over fewer options.

In ‘n’ Out is pretty good, but it wasn’t the religious experience I was led to believe it would be.
Honestly the best burgers I’ve had have all been from old-school bowling alley snack bars.

Ihad an Impossible burger at a local spot (Red Mill) and agree with your assessment of texture. Not that machines so often had with veg patties. I think the flavor was pretty good. It’s not quite beefy, but a lot closer than any other noon meat patty I've tried. 100% will eat again.

Burger King is really only a place I go for breakfast. Though their tacos are irrationally good, better than Jack in the Box tacos by far.

Truthfully speaking, the A&W Beyond Meat burger during the time of its first few rollouts was a damn fine burger albeit a $3 premium. The extremely cut down Tim Hortons version was like being on the complete opposite end of the scale. Texture hasnt changed but A&W had better flavour overall.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 22:32 |
|
Carl’s Jr and Hardee’s have the Beyond burgers and they’re ok, but the texture is a little rubbery and the flavor is slightly odd to me. Plus it’s $2 more.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 22:34 |

It reminds me a lot of the McLean Deluxe that McDonald's had, which was a reduced-fat burger. I thought it tasted good, it was just a bit dry.

I had a Beyond Taco at Del Taco and it was one of the most disgusting things I’d ever tried. Thankfully, it was my free taco I redeemed for signing up for the Del Taco app.

I mean McDonald’s has better hash browns than the homeless guy sell ing them out of his pockets.
But why?! Are there no good and cheap taco places near you?
![]() 08/08/2019 at 23:46 |

Their regular tacos are pretty bad, it’s hard to imagine that’s worse. Their ground turkey tacos are ok, but the chicken soft tacos are great.

It’s nothing like TVP, I swear.
![]() 08/08/2019 at 23:52 |

Oh no, there are. I don’t get tacos at Burger King often, it’s just that they’re better than a taco from Burger King should be.
Conversely, the burgers at Del Taco are pretty good, too.
I should start a blog where I review menu items that don't fit the overall theme of a restaurant.

You should check out Dairy Queen. Apparently, they sell e dible things!

I’ve tried the original chicken with cheese on it and I didn’t like it. I feel almost un-american saying that!
However, when they have the Italian style one with mozzarella and marinara sauce... oh lawd. It's so good.
